The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians is planning a small casino away from its main reservation, according to news reports.
The tribe has already begun work at the site, located on the Bogue Homa Reservation east of Sandersville in Jones County. That's about 80 miles from tribal headquarters in Philadelphia, where the tribe operates two gaming facilities.
The tribe proposed an off-reservation casino in Jackson County a few years ago but ran into opposition. The land was taken into trust after the passage of the Indian
Gaming Regulatory Act so there were legal and political issues in play.
The tribe refused to comment about its casino plans.
