History’s Native outlaws
There’s a fair amount of romanticizing of historical outlaws like Billy the Kid and Jesse James.
A handful of Native Americans were among criminals who terrorized citizens, either individually or as part of gangs of ne’er-do-wells. They include Cherokee Bill, Willie Boy and Henry Lowry.
Some were lawless marauders out for their own gain. Others were folk-heroes that railed against Colonial oppression.
Join Native America Calling for a historical look at Native outlaws.
