Column: 'Fighting Sioux' nickname not really that offensive

"What is this country coming to?

Is it possible to not have to be so politically correct in everything we say and do?

Seems like just about everyone is offended by some tiny little thing these days that instead of defending it, folks just go ahead and make a change which in turn just upsets more people.

What am I talking about you say?

Well let’s take the whole situation in North Dakota.

The University of North Dakota won’t be holding on to their Fighting Sioux mascot for much longer because the state’s board of education thought it wouldn’t be best to operate under the name and not have the approval or “blessing,” as some reports call it, of area Sioux Indian tribes.

One tribe supported UND and the other didn’t.

But I got a better question. Who cares? College mascots are supposed to have significant history behind them and the Fighting Sioux is one of them."
