Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R) is poised to win her historic write-in campaign although results won't be certified for weeks.
With nearly 90 percent of precincts reporting, the write-in category captured 40 percent of the vote. It is assumed most, if not all, went to Murkowski, a member of the Senate Indian
Affairs Committee and the ranking Republican on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources
Committee.
They said you can’t do it,” Murkowski said last night, The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported. “You can’t win a write-in campaign, not in Alaska, not anywhere. Do they know Alaska?"
Joe Miller, an attorney who has
the backing of the Tea Party movement, has received 34 percent of the vote so far. Democrat Scott
McAdams trailed with 24 percent.
Alaskans Standing
Together, an independent expenditure committee largely funded by Alaska
Native corporations, spent more than $1 million to support Murkowski.
