The Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate held a homecoming ceremony on Saturday for late Master Sgt. Woodrow Wilson Keeble, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor by President Bush.
Hundreds attended the ceremony at the tribe's Dakota Magic Convention Center. They recalled Keeble's humble nature and his dedicated service in World War II and the Korean War.
"He fought for his comrades, his family at home and his country," said Russell Hawkins, Keeble's stepson, The Wahpeton Daily News reported.
Keeble is the first Dakota Sioux and the third Indian veteran to receive the Medal of Honor.
