"Of more than a 100 suggestions received for a new nickname for UND teams should the Fighting Sioux fail to win tribal approval to retain the name, an interesting one came in from an NDSU graduate, of all people.
Gary Kjos, who describes himself as tired of hearing about the nickname controversy, has a three-part suggestion.
1) Contact the Chippewa tribes of North Dakota and Minnesota and ask if they would object to the UND nickname of “Fighting Chippewas.”
2) Explain to the Chippewa tribes that the current logo was designed by a UND student with Chippewa ancestry. Therefore, the logo is an all-inclusive facsimile of a Chippewa native, not a Sioux native.
3) Save money from not having to remove logos from Engelstad Arena and manufacture new athletic equipment. "
