ACLU seeks dismissal of reservation voting case

The American Civil Liberties Union is seeking to intervene in a "frivolous" lawsuit that seeks to shut down polling places on the Crow Reservation in Montana.

The suit was filed in May by the Citizens Equal Rights Alliance, an anti-sovereignty and anti-treaty group. CERA says state officials are refusing to enforce state law at polling places on the reservation to the detriment of non-Indians [PDF: Complaint]

The lawsuit asks a federal judge to force state officials to apply state law on the reservation or shut down the polling places. But the ACLU says it's an another attempt by non-Indians to prevent tribal members from voting in state and federal elections.
