Both sides in this year's hot matchup between Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) and former congressman John Thune (R) are promising a battle for the state's Indian voters.
Daschle's campaign is being managed by the same team who worked for Sen. Tim Johnson (D). Indian voters chose Johnson overwhelmingly in November 2002, carrying him to a narrow victory over Thune.
Republicans have been reaching out to Indian voters in the wake of the election. Thune has visited reservations and has the endorsement of American Indian Movement activist Russell Means.
