Mike Talley, a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, has been selected as principal of Central High School in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Talley, 34, is the first Indian principal for the school. "I’m very honored and very proud that I was selected for the job," he told The Rapid City Journal.
Talley's wife, Jackie Maxon-Talley, 37, will be serving as assistant principal of the Southwest Middle School in Rapid City. She is a member of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota.
About 12 percent of students in Rapid City are Indian.
