Indian parents hope to save alternative school

Indian parents in Grand Rapids, Michigan, are trying to save an alternative education program from closure.

Citing budget shortfalls and No Child Left Behind Act requirements, the school district plans to shut down the Bimaadiziwin program, which serves about 100 students. The decision has upset parents, who say they were misled by school officials.

In response, the parents say they might try to form a charter school, which would take money away from the school district. They are also upset over the way they were treated by the local superintendent.
