Some Haskell students worried about new president

The honeymoon is over for Linda Warner, the new president of the Haskell Indian Nations University in Kansas.

A DVD circulating on campus questions her leadership. “Trick or Treaty" compares her to former president Gerald E. Gipp, insinuating that she is exerting too much control over Haskell and might try to shut it down.

Warner, a member of the Comanche Nation of Oklahoma, disputes the claims in the DVD and defends her recent decisions. She says she took over football concessions because students weren't doing the job.

Students can no longer send campus wide e-mail because Haskell's computer system was being overloaded, Warner said. And she appointed her executive assistant to work with the school newspaper because the current adviser is retiring.

Finally, she said a proposal to raise student fees from $210 to $1,000 is being studied but no final decisions have been made.
