Yellow Bird: Commercials influence our lives

"The first subject of our amusement is this commercial: It begins with a car stopping at a fast-food drive-up window. The man pauses for a moment, then orders something like this: Double chin, love handles and blubber. OK, says the kid at the window; would you like that supersized? Go ahead, he adds.

The man's wife (I assume) leans over to the driver's side and says she wants thunder thighs and a badonkadonk butt. (I had to look up “badonkadonk” and found it was a common hip-hop term for a large butt.) By the way, this dialogue probably isn't exactly as said in the commercial, but it's close. I don't have the script.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of truth to that commercial. As those of us who “occasionally” indulge in supercaloric stuff such as fast-food hamburgers, that commercial makes us wince.

On our way home Sunday, my sister and I stopped at a drive-through in Crookston for a snack. When the kid at the window said, “Can I help you?”, it sounded just like the commercial. We turned and looked at each other and laughed uncontrollably. We couldn't order, we were laughing so hard. The poor kid must have thought we were nuts."
