Officials in New York are suing the Interior Department to block all land-into-trust acquisitions in the state.
The officials, along with groups like the Citizens Equal Rights Alliance, filed suit in federal court. They say no new reservation land can be created in New York.
The suit targets land-into-trust applications by New York based tribes like the Oneida Nation and the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe. It also seeks to block out-of-state tribes like the Oneidas of Wisconsin.
