Washington tribes meet with state over taxes

Leaders of all 29 Washington tribes are meeting with state officials today to discuss taxes.

The first meeting of the Tribal Tax Work Group is hosted by the Squaxin Island Tribe. The tribe is one of several that has reached tax compacts with the state but disputes remain over cigarette, fuel, sales and property taxes.

The tribes asked to meet as a group in hopes of resolving outstanding issues. Tribal and state leaders called it a historic and unique opportunity.
