Fire Thunder in running for Oglala Sioux president

Cecilia Fire Thunder is still in the running for president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, according to The Sioux Falls Argus Leader.

Prior reports had Fire Thunder ranked third in the tribe's primary. But she apparently received enough votes to come in second, along with John Steele. The lead vote getter was incumbent Alex White Plume.

The results, however, could change. The U.S. Census Bureau has been called in to examine some of the votes.

Fire Thunder was the first woman president of the tribe until she was impeached for criticizing the state of South Dakota's abortion ban.
