A prominent critic of Oregon's Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians is connected to One Nation despite claims that she has no affiliation with the anti-Indian group.
Marilyn Kittelman, a commissioner in Douglas County, went to Washington, D.C. this spring with One Nation leader Barb Lindsay and another county official. The trip coincides with an annual conference that draws critics of tribal sovereignty and federal Indian policy.
Kittelman also brought One Nation to a county commission meeting on Wednesday. At her request, Lindsay was added to the agenda at the last minute and was allowed to speak on land-into-trust, taxation and other issues.
The tribe is locked in a battle with Kittelman over a land-into-trust application. Kittelman has been accused of making racist and disparaging statements about the tribe.
