The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe in Oregon has donated a maximum of $4,000 to the campaign of the man seeking to replace Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colorado).
The tribe gave the money to Colorado attorney general Ken Salazar, The Denver Post reported.
Salazar is considered the front-running Democrat. In 2001, he supported Gale Norton, his predecessor, in her confirmation battle for Interior Secretary.
Campbell, the only Indian in the Senate, is retiring after more than 20 years of public service. He will leave office in January 2005.
