The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians has banished a non-Indian man for drug-related activity.

Calvin John Andrist, 39, was removed from a home he shared with a woman who is a tribal member. This is the first time the tribe has employed its banishment and removal policy.

"This is not going to be our last," tribal officer Kelly Brunelle told The Grand Forks Herald.

The policy allows emergency banishment of non-Indians. The tribe has created a separate process for tribal members.
