Drug and sex offenders face a loss of services and banishment under a new ordinance approved unanimously by leaders of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa in North Dakota.

The ordinance creates a process to bar tribal members who have been convicted of drug crimes, sex offenses and crimes against children from receiving services. Non-member offenders face banishment from the reservation.

The law does not apply to past crimes, said chairman Ken Davis. Only new offenses will be considered.
