Republican still listen to Grover Norquist, the head of Americans for Tax Reform, despite Norquist's ties to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff, The Hill newspaper says.
In its annual roundup of Washington's top lobbyists, the newspaper says Abramoff's guilty plea "threatens to ensnare Norquist and his vast lobbying network." "Still, on everything from grassroots lobbying limits to the line-item veto, Norquist speaks and Republicans listen," The Hill says.
Norquist took at least $1.5 million from Abramoff's clients, including the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana. He helped Abramoff
funnel another $1.5 million in tribal funds to anti-gaming groups in Alabama and Texas.
