The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa has begun testing of tribal government employees in hopes of ridding the reservation of a drug epidemic.

All employees are required to undergo an initial test, to be followed by random tests every quarter. The tribe's public utility, the housing authority and the tribal college have instituted similar programs, with the local school preparing a program as well.

Separately, the tribal council adopted a banishment code that allows the tribe to banish people for drug related and other offenses.
