The Secretary of the Army is reviewing a request to award the Medal of Honor to Woodrow Keeble, a member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe who fought in two wars.
Keeble served in World War II and the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Silver Star and the Distinguished Service Cross award.
Supporters say he also deserves the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military award for valor. He was recommended twice for the award for his actions to save his fellow soldiers in the Korean War.
The South Dakota Legislature has just passed a resolution [Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 2] in support of Keeble, who died in 1982 at the age of 65 after injuries suffered during the Korean War.
