The Santa Ysabel Band of Diegue�o Indians held a ceremony on Saturday to honor its veterans.
A bell sounded 90 times for every tribal member who died in wars dating dating to World War I, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported. The names of 33 tribal members who are on active duty were named. A blanket was presented to Charles Guachena, 70, who served in Japan and Korea for the Marines.
Roy Cook, the president of the American Indian Warriors Association, said there are 200,000 American Indian and Alaska Native veterans.
