Members of the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe of Nevada rejected a ballot question that would have banished anyone convicted of dealing or making drugs.
Question 1 failed by a wide margin. Only 44 percent voted in favor while 56 percent voted against it, The Lahontan Valley News reported.
If the measure had passed, anyone convicted of a drug trafficking offense would lose their tribal privileges and rights for five years. A second offense would lead to permanent banishment and disenrollment.
