Billy Mills calls for Indian Country senators

Olympic gold medalist Billy Mills, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, says Indian people need their own representation in Congress.

Mills says the current political system doesn't adequately represent the views of Indian Country. So he says the U.S. should identify four tribal regions that would each elect two senators.

There is quasi-apartheid in this country that I love, this country I defended, Mills told The Lawrence Journal-World. There needs to be three major forms of government represented. Federal, state and tribal."

Mills won the gold medal for the 10,000-meter race at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964. He is the only American to have ever done so.
