Running Strong shows patrons progress on reservations

The Running Strong for America Indian Youth organization is showing patrons the progress that their donations have made on reservations.

On its 16th annual tour, Running Strong brought patrons to South Dakota. In Rapid City, the group saw how the Christian Relief Services Food Delivery Program has helped the Pine Ridge Reservation. In 20 years, the program has delivered food 1.3 million pounds of food to nearly 27,000 people.

The tour is headed to the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation, where patrons will visit the nutrition center, food pantry and youth project gardens. The group will go to the Pine Ridge Reservation to learn about housing and education efforts, and then go to a powwow in Nebraska.

Running Strong is the organization of Billy Mills, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe who won the gold medal for the 10,000-meter run at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
