A federal jury convicted a 24-year-old man of voluntary manslaughter for the fatal stabbing of a Navy SEAL on the Fort Peck Reservation in Montana.
Gerald Littlehead Jr. was acquitted of the more serious charge of second-degree murder. He was accused of stabbing Michael Bell, who was visiting friends and family on the reservation before he was to be deployed to Iraq.
Littlehead's disabled older brother, David Zephier, was also involved but federal prosecutors did not bring charges against Zephier. The Fort Peck Tribes charged Zephier with attempted murder and complicity.
