Some members of the Navajo Nation who live within the boundaries of the Canyon de Chelly National Monument are questioning the authority of the National Park Service.

The Canyon de Chelly/Canyon del Muerto Residents Association says the park service is harassing, intimidating and threatening Navajos. They want the tribe's help in declaring that the federal agency has no authority over them.

A lawyer has told the association it has a case. But Navajo residents of the monument are being asked to hold off pending discussions with federal officials.
