The leader of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs said more protests in British Columbia are planned to show support for the Native protest in Caledonia, Ontario.
Stewart Phillip, the chief of the Penticton Indian Band, said a road blockade in Vancouver last month was just the start. "The aboriginal people across this country are glued to their TV sets in their living rooms, watching this appalling and frightening level of violence unfold in Caledonia, and they feel a deep need to do something," he told CBC News.
Elsewhere in Canada, First Nations residents in Saskatchewan erected a blockade to support the protest at Caledonia. The blockade came down shortly after it was erected on Monday.
