The Gila River Indian Community of Arizona is under pressure to host a freeway on its reservation.

Some local residents say the tribe should be forced to accept the highway. Some are calling for a a boycott of the tribe's casino, the use of eminent domain on the tribe's lands or the blocking of on-ramps on the reservation.

The tribe is just as concerned about the proposal as local residents, a spokesperson said. In the 1980s, the tribe sought to negotiate with state officials about the placement of the highway but were repeatedly rebuffed, The Arizona Republic reported.
