Darrell Chip Wadena, a former chairman of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe, has been indicted for allegedly laundering automobile titles.
Wadena, who has previously been convicted, and a Florida used car salesman are each charged with one count of conspiracy and conspiracy and five counts of mail fraud. They are accused of selling cars with fraudulent titles.
The scheme surfaced as Wadena was running for chairman of the Minnesota tribe. At the time, he blamed the tribe for issuing the titles but the tribe is not involved in the indictment, Chairwoman Erma Vizenor said.
