'Super Chief' Wadena on ballot again at White Earth
Tuesday, February 24, 2004

"Super Chief" Darrell "Chip" Wadena is running for chairman of the White Earth Ojibwe Tribe of Minnesota again.

Wadena was convicted of stealing from the tribe and was sent to federal prison. "I believe I was wrongly sent to prison, but that's in the past," he told The Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Wadena got out of prison in December 1998 and tried to run for chairman in 2000 but was barred by the tribal council. The council voted 3-2 to approve his latest candidacy.

Wadena was the focus of the "Super Chief" documentary that aired on HBO. The film centered on an election he lost.
