Wednesday, March 31, 2004

"Super Chief" Darrell "Chip" Wadena, a convicted felon, received the most votes in Tuesday's primary election on the White Earth Ojibwe Reservation in Minnesota.

Unofficial results put Wadena ahead of challenger Erma Vizenor. The two will face each other in a June 8 general election.

Wadena was convicted of money laundering, vote fraud, theft of money through misapplication of tribal funds, conspiracy and rigging. He served two years and was ordered to pay $585,000 in restitution to the tribe. He said he has paid very little of his debt.
