The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and some labor unions in Connecticut have come out in support of the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation's bid for federal recognition.
The Connecticut State Building and Trades Council, an association of construction unions, says the tribe's recognition will benefit the state.
The tribe is committed to using labor workers to build a proposed casino and other development.
The tribe is waiting for answer on its federal recognition. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is supposed to issue a decision by October 12.
