Six Virginia tribes seeking recognition as the 400th anniversary of the Jamestown settlement approaches will gather for their third annual spring powwow on April 30 and May 1.

The Nansemond, Chickahominy, Eastern Chickahominy, Monacan, Rappahannock and Upper Mattaponi will welcome members of tribes from across the country to the Chickahominy Tribal Grounds in Charles City.

The tribes helped European settlers survive at Jamestown and were among the first to receive a reservation. They are seeking federal recognition through Congress.
