"The Kickapoo Nation has in recent years made its argument for a new reservoir to serve the Northeast Kansas reservation numerous times.
A major fire that consumed about six square miles of Kickapoo land last week added one more convincing argument. High winds kicked up flames that reached 30- to 60-feet tall. The fire raced through corn, milo and soybean fields for about five hours.
Debates can go on forever fueled with theoretical arguments. This fire, however, offers tangible proof that the Kickapoo Nation needs a better water source for the reservation to be safe and the tribe to prosper."
