FRIDAY, AUGUST 17, 2001 Communities in northeastern Kansas, including the reservation, are looking to the Kickapoo Tribe to solve their water woes. The area has been suffering from drought-like conditions. Chairwoman Nancy Bear says a local dam was built when the reservation population was half its current size and is inadequate. To help its people and neighbors, the tribe is pushing the Pikitanoi Project. It would pipe water from the Missouri River 30 miles away to the area. The tribe has treaty rights to water in the river.
