The Cayuga Nation of New York has promised to pay $60 million to law firm that is handling the tribe's land claim.
The contingency fee will be given to Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal of Manhattan if the tribe opens a Catskills casino. The firm says it will distribute the money to other firms that have worked on the case but have not been paid.
The payment was disclosed through a federal court case over the tribe's leadership. One group of Cayugas says the high fee is inappropriate.
