Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota), the new vice chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, received $47,000 from former tribal clients of Jack Abramoff, The Arizona Republic reports.

The amount was the highest for any Democrat, the paper said. Some of the money came from the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan, which donated $5,000 to Dorgan as recently as October.

Other members of the committee -- including Sen. Kent Conrad (D-North Dakota) and Sen. Tim Johnson (D-South Dakota) -- also received funds from Abramoff's former clients. So did former Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colorado), whe received $7,000.
