Officials for the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina have thrown out the results for two races in last week's election.

The elections board said the votes for two tribal council districts were tainted with irregularities. They scheduled new votes for December 14.

But the two candidates who won the disputes seats have filed suit to stop the new elections. Alton Locklear of District 13 and Montford Dial of District 12 say the elections board can't call a new vote.

"Our federal government can elect our president with 50 million votes, but we can't elect a councilman with 350 voting," Locklear told The Fayetteville Observer.
