New Lumbee official promises positive changes

The new administrator for the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina said he will address problems with the tribe's housing program and try to improve the relationship with the tribal council. Leon Jacobs once served as director for Native American Programs at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. He was hired to replace Darlene Jacobs, no relation, after HUD officials said there may have been misuse of federal funds. Jacobs is a tribal member who was manager for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation in Connecticut for eight years. Get the Story:
