Opposition to the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste dump could help Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry carry the state of Nevada, some observers say.
Most Nevadans oppose the site. Kerry has promised not to allow it to more forward if elected while President George W. Bush supports it. With polls showing the race neck-and-neck, some say the balance could favor Kerry.
Yucca Mountain is located on traditional Western Shoshone land and is close to at least two reservations.
