Yellow Bird: Riding the rails across the country

"I took a big leap in my travel adventures when I journeyed to the East Coast. Amtrak carried me cross-country from Grand Forks to Washington. My assignment was to cover the opening of the National Museum of the American Indian on Sept. 21. The train ride itself took about six days of night and day travel.

I wanted to see open country, I said see this land close up, not from thousands of feet in the sky. So, when I arrived home after 10 days on the road, tired and with bloodshot eyes, I couldn't complain. I had, indeed, seen the Eastern countryside."
