Lumbee budget includes salary hikes and bonuses

The new budget proposed for the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina recommends 11 new positions, $100,000 in bonuses, a 3 to 4 percent pay increase for employees and more than $1.9 million for salaries.

The budget was discussed at a public meeting last night. Some said the proposed salaries were extremely high for the area. "I want that $93,000 job," one tribal member was quoted as saying.

According to The Fayetteville Observer, the new positions include a deputy administrator at a $93,500 salary, a finance director at $105,942 and a staff attorney at $57,500.

The tribe's overall budget is $26 million.
