Vote delayed on water project for Kickapoo Tribe

A small Kansas water board put off a vote on a project for the Kickapoo Tribe after two members said they would vote despite being affected by the proposed reservoir.

The Kickapoo Tribe is asking the Nemaha-Brown Watershed Joint District No. 7 board to exercise eminent domain to take land needed for the reservoir. The tribe hopes the project will prevent recurring drought conditions on the reservation.

A total of 12 landowners would be affected, and some are resisting. One board member owns a farm which would be affected. Another board member's family owns land.
