Five of the six people indicted for stealing more than $900,000 from the Kickapoo Tribe of Texas are in federal custody pending further court appearances.
Authorities laid a multi-charge indictment against former chairman Raul Garza, former business manager Isidro Garza and his wife, Martha Garza, and his son, outgoing state Rep. Timoteo Garza (D), former tribal lawyer Joe Ruiz and former casino manager Arthur Lee Martin. The six are accused of using the tribe's casino and health program as their personal piggybank.
Only Ruiz was granted bond and released. The others were arrested last week.
Raul Garza was ousted from office by tribal members in 2002. Isidro Garza is a non-Indian and is not related to Raul Garza.
