After years of delays, the Kickapoo Tribe of Texas is ready to open a new casino.
The $15 million casino and 3,500-seat arena should be open by September, the tribe says. The 110,000-square-foot facility will more than double the gaming space of the existing facility, built eight years ago but meant only to last a few years.
Unlike two other tribes in the state, the tribe can conduct Class III gaming on its lands but does not have a compact with the state. The tribe has asked the Bush administration to approve Class III gaming procedures but the state has filed a lawsuit.
