The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina is making changes to its housing program after getting rid of its former administrator.
A Department of Housing and Urban Development audit this past January led to the removal of Darlene Jacobs. HUD officials said there may have been misuse of a $12 million housing grant.
A HUD official for Native American Programs now says the tribe is working to become compliant. She suggested the problem was that the tribe didn't know all of the housing regulations and procedures.
