The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina has stopped work on mobile home setups in response to complaints of dissatisfied members.

The tribe bought a reported 30 mobile homes for $15,800 each. They were meant as replacement homes for tribal members because tribal officials said repairs to old homes would not be cost-effective.

But tribal members say the homes were set up improperly. Contractors hired by the tribe apparently failed to level the homes, causing cracks, breaks and leaks inside the homes.

The tribe's housing program has been questioned by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The tribe's old administrator was fired.
