"Citizens in Jasper County and other parts of the Lowcountry are telling us, “This is our time. This is our opportunity. We must prevail.”
They’re talking about their future — theirs and their children and grandchildren — as they contemplate an estimated 3,800 jobs and $156 million in annual compensation that a proposed entertainment casino/hotel resort in Hardeeville would bring.
That’s 2,250 direct jobs on site and 1,600 Lowcountry jobs that would be created as a result of economic activity the resort would generate. Marquette Advisers, an international real estate consulting firm, estimates that spin-off economic benefits in other parts of the state would produce another 860 jobs
When you add it all up, we’re talking about 4,700 new jobs and nearly $185 million in employee compensation, and this does not include hundreds of construction jobs that will be needed to build the complex."
